TITLE: Fables: Snow White
ONE SENTENCE SUMMARY: Snow White is capture by an old foe while Bigby is away searching for their missing cubs.
I’m not sure how I feel about this volume, and to be quite honest I don’t know why I continue reading them if I get disappointed by every other volume.
Part of me does like the story in this volume because of the spin they did on the whole damsel in distress trope. Just like Shrek, it’s the monster that comes to rescue the princess, but it didn’t work for me, and I can’t exactly figure out why. I think it might be because Snow White’s sword fighting mastery came out of nowhere, or at least it felt that way. If she could have defeated him or gotten out of that situation another way, I wouldn’t have minded as much.
It also didn’t feel as important as what was going on with the cubs. Fables continues to do this, presenting storylines that are not crucial compared to the rest of volume or series. It continues to bother me, and I don’t know why I continue to put up with it.
While I am sad about Bigby’s death, even that bothers me. I don’t like that he died for Snow. I’m glad he was there for her, but if she could have defended herself then why did he have to go ahead.
