Top 5 Wednesday: The Bookish Grinch

Bookish Things You’re a Grinch About
— Since being a grinch is a funny thing, try not to make this serious topics that make you angry (like lack of diversity or abusive relationships in fiction, etc) as this is supposed to be more of a petty bookish things you hate. This can be stuff about covers, dumb tropes, etc. Have fun with it.

Top 5 Wednesday: Nostalgic Fictional Boyfriends or Girlfriends

— Characters you swooned over when you were younger. This was a topic from our suggestion board šŸ™‚

Yes, half of these are cartoons, but remember I was just a kid. Yes, there are more than 5, but I had too many crushes as a kid. Top 5 Wednesday: Stories Featuring Vampires

Here is the previously mentioned paranormal creature topic. This topic will revolve around one type of paranormal creature of your choice. So books featuring vampires, werewolves, shapeshifters, demons, fae, zombies, etc.

It’s true, I could have chosen werewolves, zombies, dragons, ghosts, mermaids… but I’m choosing Vampires. Why? As a child anything remotely creepy, creeped me out completely. As an adult, not so much but I still avoid horror films at all costs. I don’t mine reading horror stories or watching shows likeĀ Buffy: The Vampire SlayerĀ orĀ Pretty Little LiarsĀ that have suspense / horror elements. But, I still and will refuse to watch horror movies likeĀ Saw orĀ The Ring or any Rated R scary movies.

I know that the prompt says to put creepy settings, but I’m choosing to put in creepy anything. For me, most of the time it’s not the setting that makes the story scarry but the characters or events in the story. Continue reading

Top 5 Wednesday: Witches

So there is a topic later this month about paranormal creatures, but 1. witches aren’t creatures and 2. they deserve their own topic. These can be “witch books” or books that happen to feature witches as characters, whether they are main characters or side characters.

Apart from mermaids I was fascinated by Witches, probably because I wanted to be as powerful as the witches I saw on TV and read about. Then again, the witches I cared about were of the nice and friendly variety. Anyway, here’s a semi chronological list of my favorite Witch stories. Continue reading
